Similar to my recent (and way late) review of My Little Geek from the OG Geekasms days, comes another children’s book that I received back then. I remembered receiving this one in the mail but had misplaced it as it came during a time I was moving. Ironically, I just came back across it as we went through things moving into our new home and I’m now dusting off and planning on putting it to use in the next few years with my latest little sidekick on the way. While unintentional, reviewing Star Wars: ABC-3PO Alphabet Book is keeping the Star Wars theme going with our new addition. (Something I’ll ride as long as I can because no doubt at some point Mom’s love of Harry Potter will begin to invade all things H.G.!)
Star Wars: ABC-3PO is a Star Wars young readers book. It was released by Disney Lucasfilm Press on June 14, 2016 (so this one isn’t AS late) and is written by Calliope Glass and Caitlin Kennedy with art by Katie Cook. The book is 48 pages and is aimed at children 3-5.
Experience the ABC’s like never before
With galactic friends who are hardly a bore.
From Akbar to Zeb, this nice little primer
Will teach you and make you an excellent rhymer.
So, Padawans, prepare, get ready, get set
To learn the ways of the Force–and the alphabet!
Just like with My Little Geek, I hate that I never reviewed this book before now, as it’s sweet, awesome, and a testament to the authors and illustrator. Each letter is dedicated to a Star Wars character. There’s a mix from the Prequels, the Original Trilogy, the latest films, and even Star Wars Rebels, and each has rhyming prose by Glass and Kennedy that are smart and catchy. The authors clearly knew their Star Wars as there’s plenty for parents to get that your little ones won’t, but won’t care because they’ll be loving the illustrations. I mean, when you start a book with C-3PO introducing himself, and include Boba Fett, how can you truly go wrong?
Star Wars ABC-3PO: Alphabet Book hits all the right spots for me, and I can’t wait to be reading this here in a few years. This is definitely one I’m not going to lose track of again. It hits the perfect balance of fun, entertaining, and educational, all wrapped up in a nice Star Wars shell.
Thankfully, you can still find Star Wars ABC-3PO: Alphabet Book on Amazon in Hardcover, and of this writing is listed for Kindle but is under review. Not only that, but in looking I’ve come across some additional Star Wars-themed books from this team, including Star Wars OBI-123, Star Wars: Search Your Feelings, and Star Wars Creatures Big & Small, all of which I plan on adding to the H.G. arsenal. (I can’t wait!)
This ABC book is great for young and old Star Wars fans or those younglings that are just starting to get into the galaxy far, far away.
