In perfect timing for World Cerebral Palsy Day on October 6, Disney+ dropped the trailer and key art for Out of My Mind, a Disney Original movie bound to hit home for many parents and families. The film, based on the best-selling novel by Sharon M. Draper, has already made waves, premiering earlier this year at Sundance, and it’s set to stream on November 22.
At the heart of the story is Melody Brooks, a sixth grader with cerebral palsy with a mind as sharp as a tack but struggles to be heard. She’s non-verbal and uses a wheelchair, and because of that, she’s often underestimated by the people around her. It’s only when a young teacher sees her for who she truly is and invites her into mainstream education that Melody finally gets a chance to show everyone what she’s capable of. And believe me, what she has to say is more important than how she says it.
Out of My Mind stars newcomer Phoebe-Rae Taylor as Melody, alongside a stellar cast including Rosemarie DeWitt, Luke Kirby, Michael Chernus, Courtney Taylor, and Judith Light. In a special twist, Jennifer Aniston lends her voice as Melody’s inner dialogue, giving us a glimpse into the wit and intelligence Melody’s been holding back.
Produced by Disney Branded Television with Big Beach, Participant Films, and EveryWhere Studios, the movie is directed by Amber Sealey and written by Daniel Stiepleman. This film is more than just another feel-good Disney flick—it’s a reminder of the power of inclusion and seeing beyond what’s on the surface. Definitely one to keep an eye on this November.
Out of My Mind premieres on Disney+ on November 22, 2024.
