Bluey theatrical movie announcement graphic with release date August 6, 2027.

Bluey is heading to the big screen — August 6, 2027!!

Our favorite blue heeler is getting a proper cinema debut. BBC Studios and Walt Disney Studios (with Ludo Studio) just locked in Friday, August 6, 2027 for the feature-length Bluey movie. Written and directed by series creator Joe Brumm, with Amber Naismith producing and Richard Jeffery co-directing, this looks like a true “made by the Bluey crew” project from top to bottom.

Returning voices? Yep: Melanie Zanetti (Chilli) and David McCormack (Bandit) are back as Mum and Dad. The film is being financed and licensed by BBC Studios with theatrical distribution through Walt Disney Studios, and Disney’s David Greenbaum is overseeing on their side. It’s also getting support from Screen Australia and Screen Queensland. Translation: this isn’t a random spin-off—this is the real deal with the A-team attached.

And if you’re wondering about the eventual at-home plan, the previous announcement said the movie will stream on Disney+ after theaters (ABC platforms in Australia) — so families won’t be waiting forever to rewatch.

Dad take: why I’m (ridiculously) excited

As a house that can quote “Grannies,” “Hammerbarn,” and “Sleepytime” on command, I’m thrilled this is being made by the folks who get Bluey. The series works because it balances big feelings, silly games, and those “oh great, now I’m crying in front of the kids again” moments. A feature-length version with the core team has serious “family movie night, extra popcorn” energy.

Also: I fully expect Bandit to hand me another life lesson in the middle of a chase scene while Bingo invents a game that wrecks me emotionally. Prepare accordingly.

Pre-movie rewatch playlist (kid-approved)

If you want to set the mood between now and 2027, queue up:

  • “Sleepytime” – the one that turns parents into puddles
  • “Dance Mode” – pure joy, instant dance party
  • “Hammerbarn” – the most accurate home-improvement trip ever
  • “The Sign” – bring tissues

Save the date

Put Friday, August 6, 2027 on the calendar. I’ll be the parent in Row G smuggling in fruit snacks and pretending I’m “totally fine” during the heartfelt third act.
