‘Star Trek: Scouts’ Brings the Final Frontier to Preschoolers!

Star Trek Day just dropped a genuinely kid-friendly surprise: Star Trek: Scouts, a brand-new animated, YouTube-first series designed for preschoolers. It’s short, bright, and tailor-made for little attention spans—exactly the kind of “first taste of Trek” I’ve wished existed when my crew was tiny.

Quick clarity: today (September 8, 2025) marks 59 years since Star Trek premiered with “The Man Trap.” Paramount is kicking off the road to the 60th anniversary, which officially lands on September 8, 2026—and Scouts is part of those celebrations.

What is Star Trek: Scouts?

Developed by Nickelodeon Digital Studio in association with CBS Studios, the series follows three 8-year-old friends: JR, Sprocket, and Roo, as they train to become future Starfleet Explorers. Episodes are 3–4 minutes each and focus on teamwork, curiosity, and the discover, grow, and boldly go spirit that Trek has always championed. A 20-episode order is rolling out over time.

Where to watch

Two episodes are available now on Nickelodeon’s Blaze and the Monster Machines YouTube channel, with more dropping into next year. There’s also a short official trailer you can show the kids first.

Why this matters for parents

  • Bite-sized episodes: 3–4 minutes means perfect “one more?” boundaries.
  • Values-first Trek: cooperation, problem-solving, and wonder—without needing to know warp cores from warp drive.
  • Free and accessible: YouTube rollout lowers the barrier to entry for families.

The bigger Trek picture

Today’s drop is part of a larger slate leading into the 60th anniversary year—LEGO x Star Trek (finally!), Starfleet Academy teases, a Rose Parade float, and even a new Star Trek: Khan scripted podcast. It’s a full-on fan-centric push under the banner “Space for Everybody.”

A personal note (briefly)

If you’ve read my earlier piece on why Trek mattered to me growing up, you know this franchise has always been about imagining better futures—and inviting everyone along. Scouts looks like a friendly on-ramp for the Next Generation to feel that same spark.
