Per an official release from Warner Bros, Mads Mikkelsen has been cast as Gellert Grindelwald, replacing Johnny Depp in the third Fantastic Beasts film.
The actor has been a part of what feels like countless franchises at this point: James Bond (Casino Royale), Marvel Cinematic Universe (Doctor Strange), Star Wars (Rogue One), Hannibal Lecter (Hannibal) and now adds Harry Potter to his collection.
Mikkelsen is said to have been director David Yates’ top choice for the role, and I can’t see him being anything but awesome in it.
Fantastic Beasts 3 is set to be released on July 15, 2022.
