Guys, if you want to score some brownie points, then do yourself a favor and buy her a maternity/pregnancy pillow.
Understand; this is a failsafe plan. You cannot go wrong here, even if the expectant mother says she has no interest in one, ignore her, she’s wrong.
The American Pregnancy Association actually advises pregnant women to sleep on their sides (the left side is the ideal side) something that, even if she’s a side sleeper, gets increasingly less comfortable the farther into the pregnancy you go. A pregnancy pillow helps make the adjustment to side sleeping smoother and more comfortable for Mom (and you, trust me!) Many women find that getting a good night’s sleep becomes hard and harder, so why not come in as a savior for her?
Yes, there are a ton of different pillows out there in any number of shapes and sizes. Different pillows offer up different levels of support and use, but the beauty here is: no matter what you get, it’ll get used, or you at least get credit for trying. You tried, you thought of her. Sometimes, that’s all you need.
In all seriousness, this is an easy purchase to make, and if it’s not just right for her, you’ve given her this first pillow as a “test run” which lets her know what he does and doesn’t like, allowing her to pick one for maybe the bed, and this one moves to the couch for afternoon naps. I don’t see a downside to this, and that’s actually the mentality I went in with when I bought my wife one a while back.
What triggered it was listening to her talk to one of her sisters. This was just at the end of the first trimester and she wasn’t having a ton of heartburn or comfort issues yet, but she was talking about “thinking” of getting a pillow to help her adjust to sleeping on her side. It wasn’t a “must-have” but a “might get”. So a quick Amazon search and I came across the PharMeDoc Pregnancy Pillow. It’s the #1 Best Seller in Maternity Pillows and has a 4.5 Star Rating out of nearly 30K reviews, so I felt I was safe. Plus Prime shipping and being on sale for 56% off, it was an easy decision.
I might have gotten this bad boy on sale, but it’s completely been worth the full price! The wife uses it constantly, plus I’ve laid on it a few times, and it’s easily the best pillow we have on our bed right now.
So don’t overthink these guys. If you find yourself wondering if you should get your wife a maternity pillow, the answer is a YES. If you think you need to do countless hours of research on it, have at it. I can’t speak to any other pillows or reactions to any others beyond this one, and I’m still racking in the brownie points for it. I promise you; you’re wife will thank you later. (Maybe even a few times)
