So, Avengers: Endgame. Here we are.
A culmination of 22 films spanning nearly a full 11 years. (The original Iron Man hit theaters on May 2, 2008!)
An accomplishment that most would have considered little more than dreaming. Hell, back in 2012, when we were podcasting about The Avengers hitting theaters with a 2-part episode, none of us would have considered it feasible that we’d be where we are today.
This journey, that’s being referred to as the Infinity Saga, concludes this weekend with the release of Avengers: Endgame. Of course, with such a release, comes a flood of reviews, and spoiler posts, and posts about box office records, and all that which, at this point, should be expected. However, after my girlfriend and I saw it this evening, I was inspired to jot down a quick review. I’ll admit, I don’t know how long its been since I’ve wrote out a movie review, but without a podcast, here we are; with the first spoiler free movie review of the new site!
This film is a sight to behold. Its a truly unique cinematic experience for every movie goes. To be able to have all these characters, that we’ve followed and invested in, come to such a crescendo, so perfectly. You’re guaranteed laughs and tears, moving moments, and those little moments that pull at your heart strings. The best way I’ve seen the movie described, is calling it a journey, and that’s exactly what it is. From the very beginning of the film, to the final shot, you’re on a journey.
Joe and Anthony Russo create something that is a mind blowing masterpiece. To have as many characters as they do, finding ways to give them each a moment, without the movie ever feeling like it was too crowded or bloated. Its truly amazing what they’ve been able to accomplish. I will not be surprised if there is not a film or documentary about the making of this film someday. It is something all its own.
What I truly love about the film, is that I walked away, not feeling like I needed more. This film has action, adventure, drama, heart, soul, and an abundance of humor. I didn’t feel like a character needed a better moment or that anything that happened with any character felt out of place. This film is a complete emotional and physical experience all its own. It feels appropriate for where we are now, with this universe and these characters. Nothing feels forced or out of place. Its all a natural evolution to bring us to this point in the MCU.
